For some years I have been hunting entirely for fun. When it is no longer fun, I suppose I'll stop. In recent years, a new reason for hunting has emerged for me, and that is to make a contribution to deer control. Needless to say, I have sometimes taken the shot at a deer that I'd have left alone were it not for the landowner's need, the state's need and in fact the species' need to kill more of them. There are expenses, such as the monetary cost of processing of meat that is to be entirely given away.
So I have started doing business as (DBA) LUCASARCHERY and now offer guide services to other hunters. I mostly host men and women from parts our our state without the abundance of deer we have here in Fairfield County. There are literally twice as many deer per square mile in unit 11 as in any part of the state. Yet (in fact, it is due to) a minority of the private land is open to hunting.
For $50 a half day or $100 a full day I guide bow hunters only. I take the client to the location where a stand site is ready and waiting. Stands are not occupied more than once every 1 to 2 weeks unless a particular hunter wants to return to a particular stand. Permission forms from the land owner is provided and the land owner is completely aware of this arrangement. A radio and/or mobile phone is provided for immediate help with tracking or game care. Professional quality photographs of the hunter and deer are provided free of charge. The hunter provides his own transportation and if lodging is requested, a local motel is used. If I hunt in a near by stand and you don't tag an animal and I do, you get my deer (unless it's a real whopper).
I have taken a record book buck and I know how to work this type of terrain. While I have focused most of my energy on harvesting as many doe deer as possible to contribute to deer management, make no mistake, I know how to put my clients on a trophy if that's what they are interested in. But if you are waiting for Mr. Big, you are going to pass up a lot of deer!
