While I often hunt the Whitetail deer for fun, I am available for hire as a Professional Hunter (PH). Landowners who hire a PH get a much more serious attempt at deer harvesting than my other properties. I hand select associate hunters based upon experience, ability and ethics to assist me and occupy my stands when I cannot. We do not miss an opportunity to take advantage of favorable wind directions and weather patterns as we hunt our clients property and surrounding locations that will reduce the "local" herd. Alpha animals, mostly doe deer are specifically targeted. It is they, in the matriarchal society of Whitetails who decide where the deer are. Large dominant bucks who damage trees with their antlers and consume more feed (8 pounds a day) are also pursued.
I have no charge unless we take deer. For each animal removed, there is a $300 fee. Half (or more) of the venison that results is donated to charity in the name of the land owner client. This donation carries with it a monetary value of over $250 that may be tax deductible (clients should consult their tax specialists). Therefore, the net expense is about $150 per animal. That is very reasonable, considering that one $150 shrub can be destroyed by an adult deer in a few minutes.
Clients should be aware that a substantial and sustained presence to have a significant impact on area deer. The removal of 10 or so animals can reduce the local herd significantly. In a recent enclosure study, ten deer became 212 in five years. Therefore, the removal of 10 deer in one season and four to six to "maintain" in subsequent years will result in a substantial reduction in deer predation. Clients who call me prefer to deal with the deer and tick overpopulation head on, rather than become prisoners inside a fenced compound. A fence or deer repellent spray never stopped a deer from living or reproducing or disseminating ticks. Deer hunting by a PH can do it, and it is available right now
